About a year and a half ago, I started cycling with my son so he could earn his Boy Scout cycling merit badge. I began to enjoy cycling again (I had previously ridden a bike as primary transportation in Japan for 4 years). Because I was already swimming regularly (because of a back surgery in 2006) and now had added cycling, a co-worker suggested I participate in a triathlon. I initially thought there was no way I could do that. After some research into the distances and training tips, I decided I might be able to do it. I joined the Ocala Triathletes Club and got a ton of support, questions answered, and advice from this awesome group. I completed 11 different events in my first year. I found an exhausting, addicting, and satisfying hobby that helps me try to stay fit and healthy. For me, triathlon is a great lifestyle that lets me be somewhat competitive and push myself to be better.
